Bolt & Shakira


A pigeon called Usain Bolt became the world’s most expensive racing bird when his Belgian breeder sold it for €310,000 ($400,000) to a Chinese businessman.




Ricardo Cases photographed the practice of pigeon racing in the Spanish regions of Valencia and Murcia, a game consisting of releasing one female pigeon and dozens of male pigeons, painted in primary colors.

In Dutch, his name reads like 'Samuel from Hoogstraeten', referring to a village in the north of Belgium, the place where I grew up. Funny enough van Hoogstraeten was actually from Dordrecht, in the Netherlands.
